Customs and taxes

VAT refunds
Passengers who aren’t EU citizens and purchase goods in Italy can claim back VAT.

How does the refund work?
Ask for a Tax-Free-Form after your purchase in a shop. The Customs Office at Bolzano airport will stamp your form, allowing you to reclaim VAT in your country of origin. Simply head to a Global Blue Customer Service Center with your stamped form. You can find more information on the website of the Italian Customs Agency.

The contact details and opening hours of the airport office of the Excise, Customs and Monopolies Agency are published on the official website accessible via this link.

Important informations to travellers
All travelers that entering or leaving in the EU territory with an amount in cash equal to or greater than € 10,000 are required to declare to the customs authorities in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1889/2005, in force since 15 June 2007.

Customs regulations
There are many items which you have to declare to Customs upon entering Italy. There are just as many which are simply not permitted. We recommend you research which items are allowed and which aren’t to avoid unpleasant surprises at the airport. All the details and current provisions on exports and useful information for travelers are available on the website of the Italian Customs Agency and Monopoli.
